Customized Spinal Cord 3D Printing with Lastest Bone Materials

An additive manufacturing project was commissioned by the MOST to the following: Chair Professor Jacob Chih-ching Huang of the Department of Materials and Optoelectronic Science, Professor Che-Hsin Lin and Cheng-Tang Pan of the Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Professor Jason Shian-Ching Jang of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of National Central University, Associate Professor Hsuan-Kai Lin of National Pingtung University of Science and technology, and Associate Professor Chung-Hwan Chen of the Department of Orthopaedics of Kaohsiung Municipal Ta-Tung Hospital, and his team at the Department of Orthopaedics, Kaohsiung Medical Univesity. After two years of work, they have successfully developed the first customizable replacement cancellous bone made of metallic glass through 3D printing. Patients will benefit from this locally desighed and manufactured product that not only substantially reduces the cost of lumbar surgery but also enhances the durabilitiy of the replacement bone.
