New Sludge Reduction Technology Original Electric Dehydration System Designed at NSYSU

Professor Yang Chin-Chung of the institute of Enviromental Engineering proposed a processing method different from the conventional pressure filtration approach and pioneered the use of electric power-assisted pressure filtration, naming it as an "electric dehydration system" for short. This novel system successfully combines two types of plate filter press (plate and frame filter press and recessed plate filter press) and can be applied to organic sludge dehydration. The novel electric dehydration system can significantly reduce the water content of organic sludge to 60%-65%, sludge cake volume by 30%-45%, and content of plasticizer and some pollutants in sludge cake. Therefore, this approach can lower the cost of sludge treatment by approximately half and alleviate the problem of landfill space, thereby constituting a sludge reuse and environmental protection.
